Practical Example

Paste the <head> section before deployment to check title, description, canonical, Open Graph, and Twitter Card tags. This catches missing metadata that affects search snippets and social previews.

What are SEO Meta Tags?

Meta tags are HTML elements in the <head> section that provide page information to search engines and social media platforms. title and description appear directly in Google search results, Open Graph (OG) tags control sharing previews on Facebook, KakaoTalk, and LINE, and Twitter Card tags control previews on X (Twitter).

This tool parses pasted HTML source to analyze basic SEO tags, Open Graph, Twitter Cards, and other tags, along with a Google search preview. All analysis runs in your browser using the DOMParser API — no data is sent to any server.

Key Meta Tags Explained

title appears as the clickable headline in search results. Recommended length: 50–60 characters. Longer titles get truncated.

description appears as the snippet text below the title. Recommended length: 120–160 characters. Should include key information that encourages clicks.

canonical tells search engines which URL is the authoritative version when the same content is accessible via multiple URLs (www vs non-www, trailing slashes, query parameters). Missing canonical tags can cause duplicate content penalties.

og:image controls the preview image when shared on social platforms. Missing this tag causes platforms to choose an arbitrary image or show no preview. Recommended size: 1200×630px.

Practical Use Cases

Pre-deployment SEO Check — Validate title, description, canonical, and og:image before deploying new pages to ensure search visibility and social sharing quality.

Competitor Analysis — Paste competitor page source to analyze their meta strategy and identify improvements for your own pages.

Social Share Verification — Confirm OG and Twitter Card tags are correctly set so shares display your intended title, description, and image.

Multilingual Site Audit — Verify hreflang tags and lang attributes are correctly configured so search engines serve the right language version to users.

Important Notes

How to Copy HTML Source — Press Ctrl+U (View Source) on the target page, select all (Ctrl+A), and paste into this tool. SPAs (Single Page Applications) may show different source depending on SSR configuration.

Score Interpretation — Warning/success indicators are based on general best practices, not direct ranking signals. However, meta quality affects CTR (click-through rate) and crawler interpretation quality.

The Six Most Common Meta Tag Failures

ProblemImpactFix criteria
Duplicate titles site-widePages indistinguishable in search resultsUnique title per page, key terms first
Missing descriptionGoogle excerpts arbitrary body textUnique summary per page
Relative og:image pathNo image on social sharesAbsolute https:// URL required
Missing/wrong canonicalParameterized URLs indexed as duplicatesOne canonical URL per page
Missing viewportMobile ranking penaltywidth=device-width required
No h1, or severalWeakened topical signalExactly one h1 per page

Order matters: fix what affects search visibility first (title → canonical → description), then the social OG tags. Per-tag writing rules are in the SEO meta tags guide.

FAQ

What are SEO meta tags?

HTML elements in the <head> section that inform search engines and social platforms about page content. title/description appear in search results; OG tags control social sharing previews; Twitter Cards control X (Twitter) previews.

Do warnings directly affect search rankings?

Not directly, but meta quality affects click-through rate (CTR) and how crawlers interpret your page. Missing title/description significantly degrades search result appearance.

Should I include both OG and Twitter tags?

Recommended. Different platforms have different preview rules. X falls back to OG tags when Twitter Cards are missing, but results may not match your intent.

What are the recommended title/description lengths?

title: 50–60 characters, description: 120–160 characters. Beyond these limits, content gets truncated in search results. This tool automatically counts and flags exceeding lengths.

Why is canonical important?

canonical tells search engines the authoritative URL when the same content is accessible via multiple URLs. Without it, search engines may split ranking signals across duplicates, diluting your search position.

Is pasted HTML stored?

No. All analysis runs in your browser using the DOMParser API. No network requests are made — verify in your DevTools Network tab.
